Hi There! I hope you are doing well. My name is Sultana Muzikir and I’m a business owner and entrepreneur who loves everything handmade. I’m also a left-hand crocheter and I love all kinds of yarn. I love buying yarn and I find it hard to resist bright and colorful yarn in particular. When I can find it on sale, it makes the experience even better.

However, as much as I love yarn, I’m also allergic to wool. I have to be very careful when choosing the yarn that I use for my crochet pieces. Also, I know that there are many people who are either allergic or have a sensitivity to wool just like I do. This is a very important concern for Makers and Customers. On that note, I decided that I would write a series of posts highlighting some of my favorite wool-free yarns that I use for my crochet projects. My first review will be for Premier Home Cotton Yarn.

Here are 5 Reasons Why I Love Premier Home Cotton Yarn (Small).

Reason#1 – It’s made with Recycled Cotton

Reason#2 – Great texture

Reason#3 – Comes in various colors

Reason#4 – Can be used for a variety of projects

Reason#5 – It’s machine washable and dryable

  • Size 4 Medium Weight

  • Please note that this yarn cannot be used in a microwave

Reason#1 – One of the big reasons why I love Premier Home Cotton Yarn is because it’s made with 85% Recycled Cotton and 15% Polyester. The addition of the polyester makes this yarn softer, more durable, and colorfast. This yarn is also Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 Certified. What that means is that it has passed the highest standard, which makes it suitable for direct contact with the most sensitive skin, even babies and small children. It has been tested for over 350 harmful substances by independent laboratories, and certified NOT to contain harmful levels of irritants, allergens, or carcinogens. This is particularly important to me because I have many allergies and I feel comfortable using this yarn in my designs.

Reason#2 – Sometimes, cotton yarn can feel a little rough. I was expecting this yarn to be a little rough also. However, the texture of this yarn is a little softer than some other cotton yarns that I have used. The feel of the yarn is pretty smooth. I found this yarn to be very easy to crochet with. I think that the quality of the yarn is outstanding and I would be comfortable using it for any of my projects.

Reason#3 – Premier Home Cotton Yarn comes in so many beautiful colors to compliment your projects. There are 26 solid colors, 15 multi-colors, and 4 stripe colors. I have made placemats, coasters, dishcloths and much more with this yarn. The various colors really enable me to design well coordinated pieces like the placemat and coaster set pictured below. I think that any Maker would love having so many beautiful choices of colorful yarn to use in their projects too!

Reason#4 – This yarn can be used for a variety of projects. Most people think that cotton yarn can only be used for home items and décor i.e. wash cloths, potholders, pillow covers, blankets, etc. However, I have also used this yarn for clothing items like ponchos, shawls, hats, fingerless gloves, etc. As you can see in the two photos below, I think that the poncho and the shawl that I made with Premier Home Cotton Yarn turned pretty good. They both have a nice drape and I could easily coordinate the colors for each piece.

Reason#5 – Last but not least, this yarn can be machine washed and dried. I think that most people appreciate it when a garment that they’ve purchased has easy care. That’s why I’m all about easy care for my crochet pieces. I try to choose yarn that can be machine washed and dried as much as possible. Premier Home Cotton definitely fits that criteria. I would suggest using a permanent-press or delicate wash setting. The label suggests tumbling dry on low. Of course, you always have the option of hand washing your pieces and laying them flat to dry if you prefer.
